Description
Orange-colored butterfly millkweed flowers. These flowers were photographed in the CREW (Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed) Marsh in southwest Florida.
This native milkweed is also called simply butterfly weed, or pleurisy-root. It is a common plant of sandhills and flatwoods in most Florida counties and throughout all but the most northwest of the continental United States.
Asclepias tuberosa has alternate leaves on a hairly stem with terminal and axillary clusters of orange-red flowers.
