Description
Close up of an umbel of white largeleaf pennywort flowers against a solid green background. Also known as beach pennywort and water pennywort.
This is an occasional plant of beaches, dunes, ponds and canals in much of Florida and the southeastern Gulf and Atlantic states from Texas into Virginia, mostly near the coasts.
The leaves of Hydrocotyle bonariensis are peltate, being shield-shaped and having the petiole attached to the underside somewhat near the middle of the leaf instead of at the margin. This is one of the species of Hydrocotle that does NOT have a sinus - or cleft - in the leaf that approaches the petiole. The tiny white star-shaped flowers of H. bonariensis are prolific and borne on compound umbels.
