Some botanists consider Pteroglossaspis pottsii the same species as Pteroglossaspisis ecristata - the Giant Orchid - while some say it is a separate species, and yet others consider it a variant form or subspecies of P. ecristata. Pott's plume orchid is shorter and has smaller flowers than giant orchids, and seems to prefer a slightly higher and dryer habitat than the wider ranging species.
