Cathedral Rock illuminated by the setting sun as seen from Upper Red Rock Loop Road. Courthouse Butte is just beyond on the left. To the right of Cathedral Rock can be seen part of Lee Mountain, also known as Mermaid Mountain.
Over time geologic processes in the area have formed the interesting rock formations made up of the famous Sedona red sandstone and other rock layers.
